I noticed some red bugs on a couple sps.....those pieces were going white at the base....I researched and just got finished dosing interceptor into my tank.....I removed the snails and starfish but could not catch my two shrimp....I turned off the air feed for my skimmer and also killed my phosban reactor with rowa.....I plan on doing a water change tomorrow morning at 6am and then I will turn air back on to skimmer and my rowa as well.....

Anyone else used this before?? I am a newbie.....

I just dosed for bugs, interceptor is the accepted norm for treating these guys. Watch your skimmer for the first bit, it will likely go a bit nutty when you put it back online.

Not generally caused by red bugs.....red bugs can piss a coral off, reduce polyp extension and slow grow/poor colour (only when they are bad) but I have never seen them cause STN or RTN.

Ok it has 24 hours since I dosed and everything is alive except my cleaner shrimp....it was dead in the corner of my tank......no signs of red bugs!! SPS looks great.....and the pieces that were whitening at the base are coloring back up now!!

I had a six line wrasse that cleared my tank of these. Stupid thing was the red bugs were on a frag when I first started out in the hobby, I seen them not knowing what they were really and thought COOL! And threw it in my tank lol

Just to be sure...we are talking red bugs that are teeny tiny on acropora?  I'm very skeptic your sixline wrasse eat these......red flatworms (planaria) maybe.

I have heard this too....probably either anecdotal evidence or hit or miss IMO....also pipefish usually wont do well in the amount of flow it takes to keep acropora happy.

Interceptor is the only treatment that will work 100% and the only thing I would ever use to rid my tank of red bugs.

I am quite impressed with how well interceptor did work.......I wonder if the maker on interceptor, "Novartis", knows that this product is very highly sought after in the reef community......

Yes. 2 times will take them out, but 3 times is preferred just to ensure every last one is gone. Be sure to run carbon the following day after every dose. A couple water changes should be done as well to ensure it is out of the system before you add your shrimp, etc. back in the tank.

Well unfortunately I couldn't remove the shrimp until it was dead.....I lost the one cleaner but the blood red guy survived......the next dosage will likely get it though :(
I did a water change after 12 hours and then turned back on the air to my skimmer as well as the rowa in the phosban 150.... Should I be using carbon as well??
