Increasing salinity

Just checked my salinity... 1.022.. oops.
I'd like to get it up to 1.025.  I plan on adding salt water instead of top off for a while.  Any idea about how fast I can increase the salinity without anything in my tank noticing?  It's a 220 and I usually top off about 2 gallons per day.  If I add 1.025 top off, I figure it will take 10 days.  Can/should I add it faster than that?  Should I go slower?

Thanks for your advice.

I have increased the sg by taking one gallon of water from tank and disolving half cup of salt. Put it back in sump when done. If any salt is not disolved, add more water from tank. I would not increase more than 1point per day.

You may find this useful.

I used it when i acclimated a freshwater scat to saltwater.

i was told yu can't use top off saltwater mix to raise  ..was told to make done 1,28 and take out 5 or 10 gallons and add new
Why wouldn't you be able to use an ATO?  It isn't topoff from the same system, I just moved the hose from my topoff tank to a bucket with salt water.

If I did a water change with 1.028, I'd have to change the entire volume of my tank.

IMO, 2 gal of 1.025 salt water top up will not put a dent in the salt level, it will take weeks for those 2 gallons to raise it in a 220gal tank.

I have done Boga's suggestion many times with success. Truthfully, you are not bringing it up that much, most stores are very low on SG and most of us do a short, if any, acclimation with no ill affects on the livestock. Bringing it up 0.003 (1.022 to 1.025) over the coarse of the afternoon will be fine.

mine was down to 1.021  so i am always gone for a week  so everyone said to  make up 1.028 of 10 gallons and then take 10 gallons out of the tank and put that new 1.028 in …as I'm gone for a whole week  ..

The way I see it, I need 12% more salt (3/25) in my tank.  with 1% evapouration per day, I am increasing my salinity by 1% per day, therefore 12 days at 1.025.
13 cups of salt seems like a lot to put in all at once.  I'm not worried about the fish, more the corals.

Sorry, 1/2 the volume of my tank.

How long do you acclimate your corals for when you add them to the tank...1-2 hours? Keep that in mind. You raise it pretty quickly in an acclimation, but that is also to acclimate temp, nitrates etc etc. Do it as slow as you wish, but over a day is more then enough time. You can do weeks if you want, but a day is all you would need.

Thanks.

It's good to know that I'm not doing it too fast.

As for acclimating corals, I was under the impression that stores only lower salinity for fish... I guess I'll check everyone's salinity when I come home from FragFest!

May I ask what happened so you have low salinity? I have to adjust about once every month due to wet skimming.

LoL, fragfest will be mostly guys like us, not "stores" per say. (No offense meant to anyone). They will probably all have high SG. I am talking BA and IA as example.

EIther way, corals should still be fine.
