I introduced a Mandarin Dragonet last week that has ich (didn't notice it till after I brought it home). I've did 2 treatments with Ich-X and now none of my corals are opening today. Should I be concerned? I don't want to risk losing them...

Doesn't say it contains copper...says 'reef-tested'.

Might help if you posted what you used and dosage, specs etc

if you follow that link above and learn the facts about ich, you'll see anything reef safe and reef tested wont work.

I have tried this stuff before in my previous tank.  After 1 day's does I had some LPS and sps that looked really bad and didn't recover in the end.  I have also tried Rx-P, and have had good results with it if you catch the ich very early and before it has spread to other fish.  From what I've read, basically it irritates the fish's skin a little so the fish thickens it's slime coat...making it more difficult for the ich parasite to attach/burrow.  You need to be very diligent with dosing though, and I have used it for 5 weeks straight (longer than stated on the bottle) to ensure a full ich life cycle.  Don't stop dosing once you don't see white spots anymore!  This doesn't actually kill the parasite, so if the white spots are gone, there could still be ich in the free swimming life stage in the water.  That's why dosing for such an extended period of time is important.  I haven't had any ill effects on coral or inverts with this stuff though I haven't tested it in an SPS evironment so I can only say this for softies and LPS with any confidence.

Of course the best route is always to quarantine fish first, but since this one is already in the tank and I'm sure impossible to get out, I would suggest giving Rx-p a try.

If any of the corals you picked up off me don't make it, just send me a picture of it and I will gladly replace...once you get ich sorted out. Was the fish from a hobbyist tank or a store?

If the fish came from a hobbiest or a store it should have been put in QT.

ya this is the truth, you should qt every fish for 6 weeks at least, I myself am guilty of not doing this, and i know i should be. i think i would trust fish from a fish store over from another hobbyist more often than not, the fish stores have a reason to make sure their fish aren't sick, 1 its bad business and no store wants that, and 2 they themselves don't want to loose their own livestock as it would be a big financial loss. Its a bummer regardless but buying used fish is always a gamble unless your buying from a known and respected hobbyist imo.

I made this mistake early in the saltwater world my tank was F'D!!

Start making water changes now I still have corals that were from that mistake. Thinking back, I only lost the soft corals.

Make a change everyday thats what I did, no other option I also ran carbon ( a lot of carbon in a filter to help remove it).

Best of luck!!!! :-\

Which store? Just so no one else gets ich in tank from getting something from there before they fix problem in tanks.

Most of the corals have responded to the 25% water change I did today. Still not out of the woods, but definitely making progress. My 2 green torches seem to be the hardest hit. The frogspawn sure is hardy though...barely a scratch. I'll keep up with daily water changes for the next while and hopefully most of them fully recover.
