Got some to try from Bigshow. I have lots of hair algae and can't seem to clear it up. Has anyone tried this approach and does anyone have any tips on using it. Thanks in advance, Bill

Yes it works as well as the reef central posts indicate.

Make sure you either take the top off your skimmer or unplug it. It causes skimmers to go nutts. I left my skimmer running just to help oxygenate. I believe carbon will remove the meds however I left my gfo in.

In my opinion you should never put any form of antibiotic or antifungal into your display tank. You run the risk of knocking out your beneficial bacteria that make up your tank's ecosystem. Fluconazole is an antifungal and hair algae isn't a fungus. What benefit would an antifungal be on something that isn't a fungus?

Have you tried anything that lowers the phosphates in your water? Often times an overabundance of phosphates is what feeds the hair algae. When I had hair algae I lowered the phosphates and pulled the worst off by hand every day. Eventually it stopped growing because it didn't have the phosphates to live on. Sometimes your phosphates look low on the tests but that is because the hair algae is consuming it.

Good luck with your hair algae problem. It can be a very frustrating thing to have.

Yvette makes an excellent point you should be attacking the cause not the symptom. That being said i used mine for bryopsis which is a WAY bigger problem than GHA

I used it, worked as described with no ill effects. Certainly deal with the source of the problem as well, but this can clear it out as you’re working on it.

Note: the byropsis may return after a few months and that will be from spores that may not have died, or may not return if all spores have died, has not returned for me in over 2 months, process was super simple and same a Heywood said no ill effects to any inhabitants

I wouldn’t think that to be a good plan, the purpose of a scrubber is to grow algae there by robbing from the tank the nutrients needed to grow it elsewhere. So if Bill were to unplug any algae scrubber if he had one that would allow the already used nutrients to now feed the algae he is trying to eliminate. I say check flow increase or maybe move the power heads to stop detritus from having a change to settle cut back on feeding and if not already wash all frozen cubes and don’t add that liquid to your tank.
