Halichores Wrasses and Asterina stars

I was in Big Al's in Kitchener a while back and I saw a Vrolek's wrasse in there listed as "assorted wrasse" they are just the Indian ocean version of the Melanurus Wrasse....  Anyway, I just added him to the display the other day and tonight I saw him grabbing Asterina stars and ramming them against the glass to rip their legs off and eating them.  He ate the bodies as well once they were small enough to swallow. 

Hooray!!!!

Just wondering if anyone else has seen this from their Halichores Wrasses?

That's awesome. I really want a melanarus wrasse. Does he sleep in the sand at night?

i have 3 Halichores wrasse in my tank currently and they dont go for them, but they are known to eat crustations so im sure asterna stars are on some of their diets. might come down to specific fish

So it doesn't sound like Poseidon's Radiant wrasse eats them either.  Which ones do you have?  I think I have seen you pots pics of a Dusky...

i had a dusky, its with salty cracker now, afaik its still doing good with him, i have a m/f pair of melanarus wrasse and a yellow wrasse currently, all are pretty big.

Yes he burrows every evening a little before the lights go out.

I have a melanarus wrasse and have yet to see it go after astrina stars but have seen him pull micro brittle stars out of my rock and smash them against the rocks so that it can eat them. I would love if he would eat astrina stars though. I was reading on RC that a few people there have watched blue linckia starfish eating astrina stars though. They also posted pictures of the blue linckia starfish dissolving the astrina star.

This is interesting.....
I used to have tons of Astraea stars, now I'm lucky to spot one or two...
And I have a blue linkia that's very healthy , but In 1.5 yrs I've never seen him eat anything lol.
