I have a standpipe in my overflow area, but in the rest of the overflow, there are a couple of big hunks of hair algae growing - they have been there for months.  I don't have any in my display - should I just let this be, or should I try and scrape if off before it gets out of control (and maybe eliminate the light getting in there)?

i would try to get rid of it.  just make sure it doesn't get into your tank.  it's a bitch to get rid of.

Im wondering about this to.. you think you should get rid of it? I kinda think of it as a type of algae scrubber lol... I let it grow there, better there then in my display, I think its exporting more nutrients then my refuge actually is haha...
but what do others think? I can't see it being of much concern, and do we think it may actually be good in a way?
Cheers!

i had the same problem in my overflow box... I switched to RO water andf got some cheato, now i only have a lil algea in my refuge under my 24hr lighting.
I wouldnt remove it unless it starts to die off, unless u make sure not to get any in the DT, use a filter when u clean it too keep it contained.
its obivoulsy growing because of nutrients in your water, at least its using the nutes up......
