Ok I believe prevention is the best intervention. My tanks is doing very well 100 gallons I am considering running brs dual reactor to keep phosphates down to prevent issues in the future. I have chaeto in my refugium. I would be interested others opinions if I should run it now or not.

I don't bother now that I have a refugium. I used to run a group reactor, but had flow problems, lighting issues etc.

Now with my new system, I've never used it and the only issue I've had was when I gave too much chaeto away one night lol.

Wait, test, react timely.

Some people add it anyways, like they say, do not dose anything that you are not testing for. If you are testing fine, then I would not add anything. But do not make my mistake and wait too long to start testing. Apparently a strong reaction causes more damage then good and costs more.

I have zero explanation for this, but I run a brs dual reactor with high cap GFO and ROX carbon. I've run it 3 or 4 times and EVERY time I have done so, within a day I start to get more cyano, and it keeps going till I take it off line. Within days the cyano is reduced. as been the odd additional other variable it COULD have been, but I'm going to wait a week or so, turn JUST that on but make no other changes and if it happens again, there is NO other explanation. I change out 4.25G a day on my 330G system and that is the ONLY other thing from last time. I've stopped the reactor, and the water changes, and things have cleared up considerably. Like your last comment, if I find absolutely that was causing it, I will try to just run the carbon to polish off the water.

2 years zero water changes just carbon in reactor and my fuge with chaeto calurpa and mangroves plus baffles coated in sponge.... levels all great and sps growing nicely even my deep water acros and my wolverine are loving it.

i have never used gfo and probably never will. after years of reseach and a few years of trial and error i found natural much more effective and reliable then a bunch of reactors.
