My Phos 150 clogs up in a week, I'm using a MJ 1200 full out with 4 inches of HC-GFO and it clogs the sponge in a week or less, where do you have the sponge placed or do you use a MJ1200 with how much GFO? My sponge is placed between the top plate and the top of the Reactor, Any suggestions?

I use the same setup. 1tbsp for 4g. I think I use 1 cup then take out 3 tbsp.  GFO is not to tumble as it will break down into dust.I have my flow just right before it starts to tumble. I change it out every60 days and no clumping at all. I did leave it 3 months one time and it did start to get hard. Which I am sure is not good.

I have a sponge above bottom plate and also one above top plate. I am using same GFO as you, about 1/2 a cup. No tumble here, just a nice gentle boil with a MJ 600 not even half open.

i found using the 150 with GFO and keeping it inside your sump submersed helps it stay fluidized, i only chance mine every 6 weeks and the last 3 times i didnt even bother to clean the sponges i run more flow through it than most tho i think.

The sponge is clogging, a stronger pump won't fix the issue, your gfo should never clof the top sponge unless your flow is way too much. If the bottom sponge is clogged, then it is your water particles,  not the gfo (although you will feel some gfo in the sponge)

TLF 150 yes to sponges 1 cup of GFO old small powerhead ?? still throttled with the included valve almost closed to keep the surface of the GFO moving slightly, just nicely fluidized.

I have the BRS dual. I use filter floss on the pump intake to filter the water that goes in. I clean it or replace it weekly or biweekly.

I use a MJ 1200 and the TLF 150 with about 1/3 of it full of regular capacity GFO.  I do find the bottom sponge, which I use, sometimes migrates upwards a bit.

Anytime you stir up your tank or you sump, make sure you turn off your MJ.  On occasion I forget to turn it off, then start working in my sump (water change, cleaning equipment, etc.), and the MJ will suck up and deposit all kinds of stuff in your reactor.  That will plug it up faster.

Also, how old is your MJ? They will crap out after a while.  Just had to replace the 1200 on my biopellet reactor as its output went down to nothing despite multiple cleaning attempts and swapping in a different impeller.  It is possible it is due for a replacement and that it isn't producing as much flow as you think.

heres my trick to get the sponges to stay Jordan, just take a small zip tie and put it around the tube above the sponge, when you trim the tail off just leave 1/2" of it and it will hold your sponge down, i also do this to my top sponge to keep it from dropping. but of course the top one i put the zip tie below it on the short tube that connects to the long tube..

That is a great Tip, I put a 400 MJ on it and its tumbling a bit so that's it but next time I refill, I will do what you suggested.  Thanks guys
