I Love this forum because it is a free place to speak your mind about good and bad experiences. A place unlike AP. Which protects it's sponsors from criticism but that's wrong because if a store joins a forum they should be prepared for the good and the bad and just grow as a store based on those criticisms.

It's a tough call.  I mean anyone can have a beef with a store, but that store is usually someone's primary source of income for their family and kids etc.  So it's hard to just blast them and do them harm just because we're disgruntled.  I won't even join AP because of the loony politics over there, this is a hobby, I don't need it lol.

smf should have a 'good/bad trader' plugin where a person or store can get a +or - rating, without the baggage that comes with the he said she said threads.  Like ebay.... how many good transactions, how many bad ones, etc.  I think the biggest issue would be a 'no tampering' rule, where a store (or individual) can't go crying to torx or Rick and demand their negatives be taken away.  Hell, give me the reigns and everyone starts with -100 points and has to go up from there

Touché. I do agree with that. Idk I just don't see it working. I think word of mouth works better.

Just a suggestion though.  I mean if only unibob says that salty cracker is a dickhead, and everyone else says he's top notch, then unibob is maybe the dickhead...or has a grudge.  Seems reasonable, no?  Just seems like this is exactly how it starts on forums like AP...except for some reason Rick hasn't tried to cash in yet.  Must be very frustrating for vendors lol.

you should be able to give your opinion of a bad experience with a person or a store.
helps new customers decide.

But i also think that once you've given it, let it be....  no point in beating a dead horse, we all know several people on here dislike IA,
and we know several people like IA, if any newbies typed in Incredible Aquarium into search they would have a wealth of info

Well not everyone knows everyone.  As much as I am a huge advocate of edumacating the average joe on the proper care of fish and corals so they can straight up just enjoy the hobby, a +/- system might at least trigger someone to ask 'why is that rating so low'?.

I was definitely a 'taken advantage of' newb, so I'm more an advocate for the other newbs out there, rather than a basher of any particular store.  However, if the level of customer service increased as a result...well honestly NOBODY loses in that.

IMO the site is well moderated, but the thread recently being locked and posts taken down seemed a bit silly for this forum.  There was really nothing wrong with what was posted or being said.  It was actually a fairly mature conversation, I actually think Justin worded his posts very well. 

I understand its a fine line, but the freedom on this forum is what makes it special, lets not take that away.

It is a fine line indeed.....funny cuz I was actually going to post something on that thread saying thanks to Aaron.....I was going to say firstly terrific job on his part but I was also going to say that it may become very likely in the future that you are going to have a disgruntled customer or person who may make bad comments towards you or the store and you will have to deal with that.....don't let it discourage you as it is bound to happen as business starts to grow.....however, I find that even tho pretty well all very well known vendors who are trusted by many have a few haters.....I guess you just gotta find what works for you.....nowadays if I have an unpleasant transaction or such I just simply don't do business again.....like I have said, word gets around.....

I know in the future I will have disgruntled customers. I deal with them every week.  In the 10 years working at the store and almost 20 years dealing with customers in various establishments I have learned to deal with these people the best that I can. If I am questioned here on this forum I will answer the best way I see fit. I have been questioned on here a few times and I try and answer as quickly as possible as to not let the person asking wait to long. I welcome any criticism as I believe it will only help me in the long run.

Also I learned at a very young age that if someone has a bad experience they tell 10 people. If its a good one they just leave it at that as most experiences should be this way.

As a side not I have been boycotting subway because of an bad experience.

i personally think we should leave things as they are.  as long as things are kept respectful than good/bad critisism is ok.

i was a member of another forum for several years and it became overmoderated and more and more restrictions were added. 
It makes for a place you no longer want to hang out any longer. The more and more we have discussions like this the more likely Rick will be to make some sort of decision as to how to handle these situations as a rule.  We all know that not everyone can be pleased all the time.  I think we should drop the subject.  lol
