Extreme TDS Spike

Ok so I purchased a BRS RO/DI system used therefore I have no idea how much life was left in the DI and other cartridges. For a few months I have been producing ZERO TDS water. Recently I have been seeing a small uptick to 5 to 6 PPM so I purchased some DI Resin and was about to make the change last week when my TDS was 12. I never got around to making the change and I tested my freshly made water again after I had exhausted my supply. My TDS is 100+ Is this normal? Should there be such a spike? Will changing my Resin be enough? Just looking for some advice. I will be changing the resin tonight but I want to make sure that is all I have to change.

Your TDS should not be 100+ unless all of your RO cartridges are really shot.  Your TDS after running for a few minutes should be in the vicinity of 5 ppm coming out of your RO, and 0 coming out of your DI.  If you are burning through your DI, probably also points to your RO having high TDS.  Sounds like you need to change all the RO cartridges too.

could be a membrane problem, if your municipality uses chloramine as a disinfectant then you should be using a chloramine carbon pre filter to protect the membrane.
Have you tried flushing the membrane?

If your unit has the membrane flush kit installed, it will be a ball valve with a blue handle on the top of your unit, about midway down the RO membrane.  Just flip the handle the other way and you will know it's working because your waste water output will vastly increase, and if your system is anything like mine flushing the membrane will also be accompanied by a loud "rushing" sound, like flushing a toilet.

I had an issue a month or two ago where I installed all new filters and then found that my unit was spiking at 100+ PPM before the DI resin for the first minute or so after starting water production.  It would quickly drop down to 35, and then slowly level out between 8-15 ppm.  After wracking my brain and checking everything, I decided to just rip it apart and reseat everything.  Not sure what it was exactly but it leveled out to normal after that, producing 2-3 ppm before the DI.

Changed my Resin. All is good back to zero. I tested coming from my RO and it was 6ppm. Don't know what caused the spike but I may change holding vessels soon. Thanks for the help.

i would be very concerned about the holding vessel, if your rodi is only putting out 10 or 20 even TDS, and your holding tank is 100+, then you have serious leakage.

do yu have a another glass aquarium?...yu can put some rodi water in that to.  ..then when yu test  in yur holding vessel on a couple days. and the water thats im yur glass tank. ..then yu know its yur holding vessel is leaking

some brutes leach, theres a couple good threads on the forum talking about this, your safest and BEST bet for water storage is a glass tank.
