Agreed

I went and was told the  sand was $1 a lb for 10 lbs then cashed out only to be charged $20

The fool I was, I paid even thou I mentioned it to them they didn't care.

I'm a sucker. I really wanted it, since I waited so long for it.

Agreed... lol

Started buying my stuff there to find out I was paying double for half the product I was getting.
Example 1:  $16 random fish medicine for disease  6 tablets @ corbetts, right after I go to petsmart they have the same product for $19 but it came with 20 tablets.

Example 2: Helped a friend move a large tank to corbetts in East end, They were to pay $150 for it (discussed on kijiji) it took 4 people to unload it from the house, when we got there to drop it off they gave a story about not being able to pay until the owner came in..  Being a official store we thought they could be trusted.
Well in the end they ripped him off, no $... but they probably still have the tank trying to sell it for 600 lol.

Plenty more examples but why rant on.. The place is a joke. both stores.

crazyb I would assume your not the only person and nothing kills a business faster than bad word of mouth. I read somewhere that for a good review of business or service people only tell 5 to 10 other people and for bad service or business that increases to something like 50. Odds are they are already feeling the pinch. Karma is a beyotch and all the stores that sell shitty product, charge ridiculous prices (like a bucket of Instant Ocean salt for $100.....even better when the big al's sticker is still on it), or bring in livestock that is difficult or impossible to keep and sell it to the first person that shows interest can all rot.

I prefer to frequent the stores that ask me questions about my system and aren't afraid to tell me that a particular item won't work or refuse to sell me a fish because my tank isn't the right size or mature enough or..? Even at the risk of not selling something to me that day. Then if I still want the fish I'm gonna go home and fix that problem and come back and appreciate that they care enough about their livestock while helping me not piss my money away.

Another thing I've noticed is that if the store's main saltwater display tank has the following I am not buying there (groupers, eels, scats, damsels) and if they have fake plants or the tank water is green... I'm bolting. While these may be great systems and fish for the FOWLR crowd, experience has taught me that they won't know shit about successfully keeping reef tanks. I'm also not afraid to ask them if I can see their fish room or I will pop my head in if it's visible and if I don't see (at the bare minimum) an RO mounted to the wall or the fish room looks/smells like crap.... I'm gone.

xxmurrxx I would tell your friend to go back and reclaim the tank even if it cost money just on principal of the matter. At the very least I would threaten to invite the police/local media down to allow them to explain the matter. Odds are they are doing this because no one has called them on it.....

These guys are the absolute "worst" in the business!  The good news is now there is more competition and I am sure they are falling on hard times.

As George W. Bush once said...

"There's an old saying in Tennessee- I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee- that says, fool me once, shame on- shame on you. Fool me- you can't get fooled again."

Yeah I dont want to use the web site to trash talk any one but I used the washroom
at corbets in the fish tank area and there were red eard sliders in there that were so
poor looking they wouldnt pass as turtle soup survivial food, along with the dead one bloating in a tub , clearly being
dead for days.....

neglect , ignorance , lazyness, mabye all if u ask me..

i dont go there anymore

Hey Garmar while I won't support anyone shopping at a store that doesn't take care of it's livestock and rips off customers I do however support keeping our money in Canada and supporting the businesses that hire local employees who in turn spend their money in the same community. I can understand sending money across the border if the item is not available here but as a businessperson myself I see first hand the deleterious effects this has on a community and our nation as a whole. Why not make the trek to other areas in Ontario where as sales volume increases the store owner might be able to drop prices or start giving you a discount as you are a loyal customer?

I would also like to point out the risks you take with livestock that has no paperwork and border crossings. All it takes is one overzealous border guard that thinks your stealing endangered livestock from US soil to have you detained and searched. And while they try to figure out what the hell you have in the bags sitting on the counter in their inspection area it is slowly dying.

Not trying to tell anyone what to do but I do urge everyone consider the matter. This is just my opinion and opinions are like belly buttons.....everyone has one!

Perhaps we can have a store experience pole, or something?  I hate when I come across (usually) a newbie who is using a disreputable store because they don't know any better.  I refer any hobbiest to this forum - so without 'bashing' it might be useful to have some kind of barometer on who has had good or bad service and where.

(notice I didn't bash anyone specific.....even though I REALLY wanted to hop on the band wagon here) ;)
