Just wondering how people are controlling params like alk calcium mag ect. phosphates i get but the rest not 100%. I d hate to start dosing for this stuff or using additives and not really know what's best or tried and tested. All your help is much appreciated. As of now my tank seems stable but im only testing alk and calcium.
I don't have much coral wise right now but would like to start getting some easy sps pieces and lps ect in the near future.  ;)

for a fowlr or a lightly stocked tank i believe regular water changes will do quite well. once your tank starts to get stocked with more corals ppl move up to dosing 2 part and/or kalk. for more heavily stocked tanks you can start using dosers because dosing daily can be a pain if you have to dose alot and with dosers you can break up the doses over the day to reduce fluctuations in ph. after that there are calcium reactors. that is about as much as i know so far and i am sure there stuff that i have missed or my not be 100% correct but i am still learning my self.

Your tank is 55 gl, regular water changes with give the best results at the moment, once you start putting Coral into your tank you may want to purchase the 2 part Bi-ionic, great stuff, It's not cheap but for your size tank it will be fine. Keep testing your Calc, Alk and also your DKH very important test.

what are your alk and cal levels?the best way i have found is to test religiously for a period of time to determine how much and how fast your tanks uses these minerals, there is a calculator at BRS to tell you how much to dose as per your tank size.
