controller cable

I bought a controller but it didn`t come with the cable that goes from the controller to my laptop. I have been doing some reading and the cable that I need is a mini-din 8 to a db9. My computer doesn`t have a plug for a db9, only a VGA and usb. I was wondering if a mini din 8 to a vga cable would work for communicating between the 2 devices ?

USB to db9 is a pretty cheap adapter. Tiger direct or canada computers would be the best bet locally.

I was going to try tiger direct but every where I go. No one has seen a mini din before.
The other question I had is on my laptop, what jack should I be trying to go into, VGA or USB ?

it wont fit into the vga, i think.. but either way the vga is not a serial port.  you need a usb to serial converter, a simple one.

the page that torx listed has a frequently bought together cord as well... should do your usb to serial ,, then serial to db9 if you buy both lol
