Cheato

Is or does cheato smell. I just added some a couple of days ago to my sump, today I noticed a smell, I am freaky about smells.

I've never noticed it smell, even when handling/harvesting it.

mine doesnt smell at all even the bag full of chaeto i braught home from member had no smell.... normally the smell is coming from the skimmer cup if i didnt clean it for a while... but if your water stinks thats not a good sign

p.s. i just grabbed a chunk of chaeto and calurpa from sump and it dont smell.

Means it's dead or dying

You need fresh cheato.
It should be almost springy and wirey if still healthy.
Pieces will almost snap if you bend them in half

I just checked the water, it doesn't smell. the cheato is wiry, it almost smelt like the sea shore, that sea weed smell..my sump has 3 large chambers and 3 small chambers. the first chamber is small and the emergency drain ( ?)is in there, the next chamber is for flow from the tank, it has a ton of rock there, the next large chamber has the skimmer and the 3rd large chamber has the return pump. the water is crystal clear.. the skimmer do have a bit of guck in it, I will clean it and see what happens..

Mine has same smell...like seashore. It's all healthy looking though!?

no its was on my wish list, I have one ordered. the new pump for my skimmer was more important..lol..

What kind of light are you looking to get?

Just put a clamp lamp with a standard 100w equivalent CFL bulb on it.
It'll grow like a weed with that light.
