Don't do the water change without testing the salinity. And if you go to buy a replacement, get yourself a refractomoter. So much more accurate. Good investment.
Maybe someone has a used one for sale in your area?

600gr salt for 5 gallon
10-20% of water change would be safe anyway.

Thx so much!! I went out to my LFS, got myself a refractometer. It is much more accurate then a hydrometer. Did the water change

i saw a refractomoter on kijiji for sale. check
