Calibrating temp probe

I'm in the process of trying to calibrate my itemp probe for my RKL.
I need something that can very accuratly measure my temp.
Any ideas ? Whats everyone using ?
I tried a cheap digital thermometer & my TDS meter has a temp reading but both are giving way diff readings.
As of now the itemp probe is saying 77.6 , the digital thermometer is 77.2, and the TDS meter is 78.8

I use a digital food thermometer to verify my readings, those cheap digital fish tank ones are usually way way off.


2 ways to check your thermometer/probes against constants are with boiling water or an ice bath, the first you should be seeing 99-100 c or 211-212 F degrees at boil and if your thermometer will go low enough a cup of ice with just enough water to cover the ice mixed up a bit should be right on 0 C  or 32 F

So I can stick my probe in water till boil starts and then set it at 99.5 ?
No damage to the probe at temps that high ?
After setting it at the boiling temp I confirm it with the ice water ?

my cheap digital one i run along side my RKE just for fun, its consistantly 2 degrees C lower, lol

might want to get the water boiling first, if you can calibrate your RK probe down to the decimal place then i would set it with 32.00F using the ice water bath method as its not affected by sea level elevation, then check it with the boiling water.. so 212F or 100C is the boiling point at sea level.. it gets lower the higher elevation you go.. so if you take a guess and say we are at 750 FT above sea level.. your reading should be 99.2 C or 210.5 F in water while its boiling.

Ok I will try resetting the probe to 32.0F with ice water tonight. Will report back
