Salty used one of these, I believe it was leeching phosphates after he tested it and subsequently got rid of it.

You should just look for a food safe, water storage container.

I never thought of that about the leaching, I was going to order a 20g from JT acrylics. Does anyone know if acrylic leaches phosphate?

Incorrect, Salty used a 'ROUGHNECK' not a Brute, big difference.  Also, Brute containers are food safe. There is a lot of 'talk' about if these leech, but its usually speculation (look at the comments above, no one actually used them)

I personally use 2 BRUTE storage containers (with lids), one for RODI and one for salt water, the salt water is heated and has a pump in it. I have tested both after sitting for 2 weeks on multiple occasions. The RODI shows 0 TDS and 0 phosphate using a Hanna Checker. The saltwater tests 0 phosphate with the Hanna Checker as well.

Again I have tested this on 3 different occasions, all with the same results.

All that said, I am NOT successfully keeping SPS. I do not believe it is because of these storage containers but cannot say that conclusively.

Randy Holmes Farley uses about 8 of them in his system, he has tested them and considers them reef safe.

Sorry, I didn't catch the difference between the two containers. I just recall an issue with his was all.

I use a glass aquarium I got for like 20 bucks.

I started using a pair of these for water mixing a couple of months ago.  No issues yet, but I'm not storing water in them for periods of longer than a day or two.  Eventually I plan to connect the freshwater bucket to my RO/DI unit via a float valve.

I also did test the water in mine. I have 30 g of RODI at any given time and usually the same amount of SW below mixed and heated. Never had an issue.

If you are using the tank to mix salt water then you will really appreciate the tank because you can measure the water and the salt to get it perfect each time. In the brute you have to approximate and get it close and adjust.
