Bringing Pukani Dry Rock Into Canada

heading down to the house of blues next weekend for the hip concert and thought maybe I'd bring back a couple hundred pounds of dry puukani for the tank. Billy hay is charging 1.65 pound with free delivery in the usa, I'm just a little concerned about the border. I wouldn't bring back liverock without a cites permit, but this isn't live rock. Anyone make the trip before and can share experiences?

Careful, if the customs officer does not understand what it is that you are bringing across and you have no paperwork to support it then you may end up having it confiscated. Best to ask the person you are buying it from if they can provide a receipt with a detailed descrition, also if the vendor does not normally ship into Canada it may be worth asking why not. If it's just a matter of shipping costs then you may be able to get away with it.

being a dual citizen of U.S and Canada I would not recommend it as we have had some rock we had in Florida confiscated at border entering Canada. You will need proper paperwork as I understand its for dealers and brokers of cites items. As far as was explained to me was weather live or dead its still from a reef and falls under the same laws.

From my understanding, it does not matter if its live of dry but I have been wrong before. lol

Also, if dry rock is legal to import, try explaining the difference to the border guy and he may look at you with 2 heads and still charge you with smuggling.
