I had used my 550 for pellets but found it needed to big of a pump to keep the stuff tumbling properly so I switched back to my 150.

I did mod it as well, just cut the bottom red plate off the tube. Worked ok, but every time I shut the power off my pellets would back siphon into my pump and ruin it ( that's what cracked my mag 9.5 impeller shaft)

I have my 2 tlf150's with a biopellet mod as posted by theyangman a few months back. Works amazing on the tlf150, but I need 2 for all my pellets.  Pellets are going into my 550 and gfo into one 150 and carbon in the other.

I have mesh, was thinking of trying the funnel mod though.

Not really sure.  I use a vertex.  But my 550 came from blob and he used it for pellets and it had screens.

I run the 550 with a funnel mod and it works really well with very little flow from a line teed from a manifold off my main pump.

Got a funnel from dollarama, cut it to fit into the bottom of the reactor. Attached a straight piece of 3/8" PVC line inside from the input down to about a half inch off the funnel. Fill with pellets and fire it up.

Make sure you put a screen at the top to prevent pellets from getting spilled and shot through your sump.

Works really well.

I copied the mod I saw in a thread from type zero from the forum, is he still around? Lol!

Wow, simple mod. I was just going to hook this up stock, but as I looked at it I realized how easy and handy this would be to mod. Even easier then the TLF150. I just removed the red plate from the end of the internal tube (just a little force and sharp object to break away the glue to separate the 2 pieces) . Then I used plumbers tape to connect that tube to the top plate just like the TLF150 mod. But unlike the TLF550's little brother, the TLF150, this already has a domed bottom, making for great tumbling action of the pellets with no dead spots. I used to have 2 modded TLF150's running pellets, and videos can be seen on my Youtube page as well.

That seems like a lot of Pellets in there. Are you just starting to run them?

Yes, there are a lot. I am a little on the high side for the amount of pellets. Suggested at 1 cup per 50 gallons. I have about 150gallons total volume.

It's just that I've read that you should start with half the required amount when starting out.

You are right.

But I have been using them since this tank started about 8 months ago.

Taking the plate off the bottom of the reactor is the best thing I've done to mod my tlf reactor. Works like a charm, I think theyangman brought that idea on board the frag tank and many have done it.
