I've been running Bio-pellets for a month and I don't see any difference in my tank other than Cyano in my sump, I do have a very healthy Refugeum and my tank is LPS dominate, Can I just turn the reactor off. I must add that I initially started with 1 cup of Pellets and haven't added any.

I just turned mine off with adverse affects but I think the package tells you to wean it off slowly. that might just be a salls pick to buy more product.
I am tagging along, I am curious to see what the more experience reefers have to say.

I treat it like additional liverock,
It's extra space for bacteria to grow... It's not a cure all- instant no3 reduction medication....
It's a process....

Id sound kind of dumb if I added a piece of rock and complained it didn't do anything a month after i added it.

It has to mature and the bacteria has to culture all the pellets, can take several months.

I don't have a N03 issue, I upgraded my skimmer to a Bubble King Mini 160 and I think i'm gonna turn it off. My thought was it may clean up my sand. But it hasn't had any effect on it and I'd like to free up some space in my sump to run Carbon and GFO.

When I do weter changes which is weekly, I vacuum the sand but theres a brown staining that is always constant. I thought the addition of the Pellets would clean it up, but it hasn't.

the brown staining is more likely a p04 issue rather than no3,
pellets help with n03 but have very little affect on phosphates.

maybe try run some gfo if your not already doing that

the brown staining might be from silicates. I know that's my problem as I use tap water

I've got 3 Gobies now, they do some good, one thing about the Diamond and the Yellow head is that they pick up the sand then drop it on the Coral, Yes it is Diathom and no phosphate, I run HC-GFO 24/7. That's the only thing wrong with my system is the sand. I'll be going LED as soon as my fixture is in.

u should get a Diamond Watchman Goby feeds off the bottom as it sifts through the sand, keep the sand bed nice and clean.

And once the goby eats all of the "live" out of his sand then what?  Sand sifting gobies rely on sifting sand and eating all of the benefits of the life in our sand. Make sure you want to watch him die of a slow death if he chooses not to accept supplement food from you after he strips your sand bed......

As far as the length of time your pellets have been online. I dont think IMO you have even given them a chance to start working Jewel.

Take no offense to my comment guys, But they are a few of the fish I believe that don't belong in home reefs.  For those who can get them to live from supplement diet my hat goes off to you.

All opinions are what makes the world go around they say.  :)

Back to topic,

Jewel, Did you not notice a drop in your NO3 ?
