Good day fellow reefers,

I’m thinking of trying an auto fish feeder and am curious who has experience with them, good or bad lol and which feeder people would recommend.

Cheers

I've always run tanks with auto feeders.

I only have experience with Eheim auto feeders. Our business uses them on all the tanks we care for.

I feel confident in the feeder because it has a small built in fan that blows air through the drum as its rotating. Helping prevent moisture build up near the opening. It also has a low battery indicator on it.

It can be programmed to feed 2 rotations at 4 different times throughout the day.

I’ve tried using the eheim feeder on a few occasions, and always end with pellets getting damp and clumped together. Anyone using one in a canopy? I’m thinking that’s the issue.

About 75% of the ones we have on clients tanks are in enclosed canopies.
We usually have to clean out the hopper once ever couple of months in those ones.

I use the Aqua One Dial a Diet Digital Auto Feeder. It works exactly as expected with lots of feeding options. A shout out to the company as well as I did have one that kept draining the batteries too quickly and they replaced it, no questions asked and let me keep the old one. Great for spare parts if needed.

Anyone using the Apex Feeder?

I do, Love it,,, works great,,, but it does sound like a someone starting a 1980's Buick While it's in operation,,, Honestly never clean it out,, top if off when needed... for apex I expected more.... but i'm not sure what... it works 100% of the time, doesn't get Gummed up, just a little loud...

Eheim on my freshwater tank.
3 (smaller) feeds a day.
Only issue I have is the splashing of both water and pellets as the fish try to get to the food first. It gets quite messy.
No issues with clumping as of yet.
Took a bit to get its dialed in for proper amount.
Now I don’t worry about taking off for a day or three!
Well worth it!

Yeah I’m leaning toward the Eheim.

I have the Apex one.

No complaints really. Yes it is noisy.

Mine is installed over the return section of my sump instead of over the tank. Works well, food drops in and return pumps pick it up and randomly sends it to the tank through the returns, fish get to chase the food and it doesn’t all come out at once but usually all out in a couple of minutes.

Don’t really get too much settling in the return section so no real buildup.

On the feeder you select pellet size by slide. It’s a little finicky to find the right size. The small is a little too small and the next size up seems to dump a little too much. I guess it depends on size of pellets.

The drum is removable but the one time I accidentally dumped the pellets in the tank while trying to remove and add more.

Nice thing is it integrates with the Apex, pumps slow down and easily programable.

I am using the iLonda wifi smart fish feeder. It has some bad reviews on amazon but I love it and for $25 on ebay it does more than what I need.

You can control it manually or use the app, set up multiple schedules and timers right from your phone. It connects to Alexa and Google so I tell Alexa to feed fish from time to time....kind of fun.
