Looks like Incredible Aquarium will be selling Aquaforest Salts shortly, they are list on their site in Bucket and Box. So if you are buying yours from Amazon you may want to stock up as they may have to remove them from Amazon or at least prices will increase.

It would honestly be the other way around. It's tough for most stores to compete with Amazon. Considering the seller on amazon is Aquaforest I doubt anything will change. But always better to support LFS.

Unless, the LFS is stupid, they would not agree to take on a product like this without some sort of assurance they will not be undercut. They would insist on MAP pricing. Why would a retailer burn a bridge on another brand they make more money on if amazon will be cheaper/more convenient for the consumer. You will either see it not be on amazon anymore, or the pricing come in line with the retailer.

This is one of reasons I did not go with Aquaforest. It is hard to find.

The other reason is I got the ones that rock hard, and even after I waited the store to get more in they came hard already from the distributor.

As long as amazon keeps selling it, i'll still buy from them. Free shipping from amazon vs. $20 shipping from IA. Not completely convinced the amazon price will go up though.

Why do you assume amazon is selling it cheaper? Looking at several canadian LFS they have the same pricing as amazon.

The problem lies with carrying stock and no one can compete with Amazon in that sense. More people will go to amazon out of convienence as it's a one stop shop that will deliver to your address free.

I said unless the LFS is stupid. Can't help stupid. Although, it is poor business decisions that has so many brick and mortar places going out of business. If he does not secure pricing assurances from AF then the only business he will get is whatever is immediately local because of the exact reasons posted. Convenience sends people to Amazon. So 1 of 3 things. He is stupid. he knows he can do enough LOCAL business to justify carrying it OR he has some arrangements with AF.

Im sure he is not relying on selling salt mostly online, due to its cost to ship. This thread is confusing o_O

Just an update on this salt. Looks like amazon.ca has now jumped price to $98.70+tx/CAD (free Prime shipping) HERE for the 22kg pail.
Bulkreefsupplies sells it for $85.99+tx/sh/USD HERE.
Incredibleaquarium has it on their site HERE, but no prices as of yet. Honestly, it looks like IA is getting out of Instant Ocean. All they have on their site is regular box IO.

To note, 22 kg Bucket of AQ PR makes up to 145 gallons for $98.70. Instant Ocean Reef Crystals 20kg and does approx 160 gallons for $74.95 HERE.

Closing - I can see the retail Canadian price being very close to the amazon.ca price of $98.70, maybe even higher (probably closer to $115). I think I will stick with my IO RC Big Al's Boxing Day sale prices of $35-45/160 gallon pail. That would be $270 (IO RC sale) vs $588 (AQ PR amazon) for 6 buckets for a year supply of salt for me. Actually, $686 of AQ PR as it makes less salt and I would need 7 per year. For people with smaller set ups, that may only use a bucket or 2 a year may not be so concerned about the bottom line, I can see using this salt, however, for us with multi/larger systems, I can not see us using this.
