11pm tonight is the estimated time to go on...
Our back up generator shot so we've been out since 2 last night, fish tanks seem ok, I kept stiring them every 2 hours and the temps been holding steady,
I kept stiring them every 2 hours to keep them oxegenated.
Where going to get another generator this am but how much long do you guy think I have?

our power went out for about 45 min that was at 1:30 am this morning and was back on at 2:15am and has been on since so all good in tilly! I keep getting told ya have about 4 to 5 hours but I'm thinking more like 3 hours and things can start goin south. If ya need to move anything I have my 30 gallon hospital tank running and my sump is open fir ya as well!

I've had 24+ hour power outages on my 120 with no ill effects. As you said you have to keep the water oxygenated. A good trick to do that is to take a cordless drill and put a beater head into the chuck. You can whip in a ton of air quickly.

Temp is the next important thing. If its a short outage or your house keeps warm the tank probay won't get too cold. You can throw some heavy blankets over the tank to keep the heat in. We have a gas stove so what I have done in the past is to heat a soup pot full of tank water and keep cycling it through the tank.

Good luck.

Well as far as heat goes....my cube has been ran at 60 degrees for over 3 days, and also 87 degrees for who knows how long. I did not loose a single fish, nor a single coral, return pump and powerhead were always running.

Im thinking oxygen is a little more important.

The warmth seems ok, last night it was 80 and this morning it was 78, it's In a relatively small room, but I think I will do the blanket idea or get a bucket of tank water and heat it with a propane stove or a BBQ lol

We lost power for 45min as well in Tavistock. Went out around 3am. At the 1hr mark I was going to start stirring water to keep it oxygenated. I like the cordless drill idea ! Today Im buying a UPS. If anyone has suggestions please post in the thread on battery backups !
Thanks

we got a back up generator so its all good.  8)

its actually kinda nice to know a tank can for for 6+ hours with no ill affect as long as the temp stays the same.

Our power went out last night at least 6 times, first time only a minute but each time it went out it stayed out longer...  I decided to drive to Kichener early and get groceries since they had power LOL.

Today I'm sitting at work and the buildings on either side of me and all the houses across the road have been without power for hours.  My building however hasn't even had so much as a light flicker, although Hydro is in our outer parking lot so you never know what will happen!

Wrapping the tank in foil, then a blanket. Should keep it warm

Back when i had a freshwater discus tank, thats exactly what i did and temp only dropped a bit for half a day.

My power has been out since 3am and it just came back on now, flicking off and on from time to time... My tank made it through it looks like, corals are mad at me

We were declared a state of emergency, so fingers crossed that it stays on!

Hope everyone else made it through safe and sound!

My power went out at 2 am April 11 and is not expected to be restored until 6 pm tomorrow (April 14th).  I have just fired up the computer and internet for a short while.  So far things going well with our little generator and we're running the fridge, freezer and 4 tanks with their essentials.  No problems yet except needing to buy gas a few times.  This little generator actually doing great and we've only had to fill it 3 times in 36 hours.
The power was supposed to come back on today at 6pm but they've just updated us to say not till tomorrow  :(

you're both so close, yet I have't even had a hiccup here, power wise..
not even once.. What happened that way to take things down? even when the wind and rain was brutal everything was alright..
maybe living near the hospital is a great thing for my tanks.
