Anemone splitting

I was under the impression it was a survival tactic to split and that they only did it when stressed.
Well my large flame is very happy and healthy and it went from being fully open yesterday to splitting this morning.
Do they split when there happy?
Or did something unaware to me, piss it off in the last 24 hrs ?
