So this pastmonth ibe really.noticed my sand and rock getting this brown alge all over it.. Levels are all where they should be except phosphate  is a little high. I recantly added 30 pounds of dry rock to my tank and noticed yesterday the alge os even worse.. Is this just all  the new rock going threw alge stages?

+1  Whenever you add fresh substrate or rocks or scrub or clean old ones,  the fresh surfaces have free silicates that diatoms need to grow their skeletons.  Blow them off if you wish but once they deplete the supply of silicates they will go away.

The bubbles in the pic on the gateway are due to the fact that I mounted that Frag on a new rock structure and it was in its diatoms phase .  I may have blown them off once or twice but they went away in a few weeks and the structure is covering over nicely with coraline now and my new center structure is doing the diatoms thing....
