Well we had a very upsetting day today. Not sure why or what happened but I lost 3 fish and my peppermint shrimp today. Last night I spent some time watching my fish and all was great they ate well and everything looked great. This morning when I got up I noticed that the water looked cloudy. I turned on the lights to see what was going on. Water was very cloudy with lights on and 3 fish and my peppermint shrimp where gone. Wife was in tears as two of the fish where our two clowns . It's amazing how quickly things can go out of wacky. 3 pj's Cardinals survived and all my cleanup crew survived as well. Sad day at my house:(.

Thanks guys... I cleaned up the little guys and did a 50 percent water change. I'll wait for a few days and do another 25 percent. I plan on rethinking somethings so I think I'll wait for a while before I bring more fish back in.

Wow sorry to hear that nathan, did you happen to check your Temp. heater may not kicked in and sudden temp drop? I would also check Nitrate maybe a sudden spike in Nitrate, I know the Shrimps do not like high Nitrates. Cloudy also. You may want to ad some Prime if you have some. PH and Alk. OK? If all parameters are OK, the only other thing I can think of right now is major drop in O2 over night. Sorry again nathan, lets us know if you figure anything out.

I panicked and didn't bother to check anything unfortunately.... I did an immediate water change so I didn't lose anything else... I should have stopped to check but I felt there was an immediate need to fix the situation.

aww crapy.. let me know if you need anything

make sure your skimmer has water flowin through it
Thanks dale for the offer bro much appreciated.... I'm going to just stick to water changes and continue testing... water is flowing through the skimmer... water is clear again and all seems normal... very strange but I guess like others have said things do change very quick . I still am going to wait for a while to put any more fish... I'm especially upset about losing my black onyx Picasso. This gives me the opportunity to rethink my direction with my tank... I'm thinking of getting a hang on back fuge...but lots to think about .

Sorry to hear bud. It's never easy when you lose something that you have an emotional attachment /connection with. Did you add livestock recently?

Do you run a canister filter or have an anemones?

I run a canister filter it was fixed and cleaned a couple weeks ago after having to fix the impeller. I have one bubble tip nem and 3 bornemen nems in my dt. They are all fine.

Sorry to hear about your losses and your tank issues
Cloudy may mean equipment failure or equipment back up (clogged skimmer?)
I hate canisters for SW setups as I'm not sure of their overall effectiveness vs risks.
Although some have had (are having) success with HOB fuges, I've had poor luck with them as they need continuous cleaning otherwise they can become a "messy" proposition. Sumps perform better than HOB refugiums in my experience. Cleaner, neater and easier to maintain
Have you dosed beyond regular parameters ? Any of the occupants or CUC missing in action ? (any decaying matter can cause potential issues). Perhaps more flow is needed ? I can loan you an MP10 if you want to experiment
Having said all of this, it may come down to the fact that you may never be sure of the cause. This hobby can be a beautiful siren or a cruel mistress
Best wishes
