Grab some popcorn this is going to be a while....
This has probably been the most abused and neglected successful basic tanks ever.
25gal cube started 03/17
I used ammonia and some instructions from the web and began cycle testing and adjusting daily until my tank was eatting the ammonia as quick as I dumped it in.
I sculpted the rock with fijicrete and chunks of LR
My equipment was Ai Sol blue light and reef octopus HOB1000(hands down best nano slimmer out there!!!) jager250w heater and mj1200....basic!
I added stuff. Some died some lived. I took out the dead stuff and did my water top ups and changes(2.5-5gal depending on laziness) and I moved and got 2 mp10s
Befor I moved this was 12/31/17
You can see my goldfish in the upper right and lower left
The skimmer died and I replaced it with a jns HOB(did I mention the reef octopus being the best) and also added a tunze micro ATO and 7gal res in the stand. Plus a ac70 hob. Oh the light is a primeHD at some point.
So the tank was moved. Some stuff died some lived. I took out the dead.
Oh then I moved again. Super cold rock and coral were exposed to the air for about hour. Lost some cool stuff.
That’s 09/19
Today I still change 2.5 or 5gal depending on what the coral are asking for.
I use a rodi instead of buying ro anymore
NO skimmer anymore. (Just found I never get enoug in it to justify)
Ac70
Heater
Ai prime
1 mp10 on reef crest max(my lps like it way better)
ATO
Now who noticed I never said anything about testing water after my cycle? I don’t and never have. Nor will I.
It’s simple. Don’t put anything bad in. Don’t over dose. Do water changes and in my case rotate AC sponges(I run 2 in it and swap the top to bottom and then a new clean one on top.
My corals show me how the water is but I do my changes weekly.
Here’s a little growth example. And I have more. But.....aug 24
Sept 24....
It’s grown onto and up the lr.
Simple. Basic. Thriving. Oh and sumpless.
