We thank all of you for being a part and assisting in the growing of the 'thefragtank' community.

In order to keep the forums running well and to prevent problems, please follow these simple rules for the forums here. If you have any questions or problems, please feel free to contact one of the Staff Members.

Please follow the forum Rules and Etiquette

Failure to follow the posted rules of our community could result in restricted permissions, account removal or permanent ban.

Respect others & their opinions:

Sometimes people can write something that you may find offensive. Before launching into a public condemnation, please consider that the person may not have intended to cause offense. It is very easy to misinterpret a post on forums. This is why we have smilies - as something as simple as a smilie face can help to show the intended 'tone' of the statement. Please use them - as they do help to prevent misinterpretations.

There is absolutely no need to resort to insults. Respect others' views even if you disagree with them. If you do find an insulting post/thread - please use the report to moderator button to bring it to our attention.

Insults consists of making unsubstantiated claims or bad mouthing an individual store, chain of stores, retail companies whether walk in or online for an incident you may have had.

We have a zero-tolerance policy in effect against ANY personal attacks. We will not tolerate anyone insulting another individual's opinion nor name calling and will BAN repeat offenders from using the forum.

Disputes:

Please do not use the forums for personal disputes, heated debates, flame wars etc. You are expected to treat each other with respect in the forums and take any personal disputes to a private mode of discussion off the forums. If you should find that your discussion is becoming too heated or someone is becoming far too passionate about their argument, please take the discussion to private message or email and notify a Moderator or Administrator.

Be kind to newcomers:

Newcomers may be annoying. They ask the wrong questions, including ones that seem obvious (or whose answers seem easy to find). But lots of valued contributors started out this way, and treating newcomers kindly makes them more likely to turn into the valuable community members we all know and love (and cut some slack when they mess up). So while you don't have to humor them or suffer them gladly, and it's fine to point out when they make mistakes, point newcomers in the right direction in addition to turning them away from the wrong ones, and be kind to them in the process of correcting their transgressions.

Spammers:

Despite our best efforts, you will very occasionally see spam on the forums. Complaining about spam in public increases noise, but not signal. It may make you feel better, but it doesn't help. Notify a Moderator or Administrator. DO NOT ever place your email address into your signature or posts - as automated crawlers that 'crawl' the internet will pick them up - and either SPAM you - or send out email spoofing your email address as the sender. There are Contact links to you via your Profile - this will still allow you to receive all emails (as long as the email address in your profile is correct) - but will NOT allow the crawlers to pick-up your address.

Soliciting:

Advertising and solicitations are NOT permitted on this forum unless you have been granted affiliate status by an administrator. Posting of advertisements by anyone other than in the appropriate "Store Announcements and Information" forum is not allowed. Advertising and soliciting in signatures is also prohibited unless you have been granted affiliate status by an administrator at which point appropriately sized banners and/or text links are permitted. These banners will be limited in size and information. In either situation, if we find that this signature area is being abused, we reserve the right to either delete, edit, or remove this privilege at any time.  Chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are inappropriate on this forum.

Posting Pictures and Links:

Providing advice is much, much easier when we have something visual to go from. Provide links to back up your information. The more you can back-up your 'advice' or 'opinions' - the more people will consider them. Pass on interesting articles or links as you find them. There are many, many information sources and articles on the web - so as you find good ones - please do post them for the other members of the community.

When sharing your pictures with members, please try and keep any files you attach small (under 1mb) Not everyone has a fast high speed connection. Please try and keep your signature brief. It's annoying to see posts that have signatures and or images that are much bigger than the messages in the post. Post counts on our forum are in place only to acknowledge contributions made by our members. We are in no way biased to the amount of posts our members make. Please do not misinterpret post counts for anything other than what they are intended.

Links to any undesirable sites (i.e. pornographic, hate literature, indecent material or any site that the administration deems inappropriate) are not permitted period. If you post a link to another site, it is YOUR responsibility to ensure that the website does not contain questionable content.

Classifieds:

When selling or looking for an item, you must not prematurely bump (move up) your post for at least 2 days (48 hrs.) Premature bumped posts will be removed. Editing of your original post (to advise of individual items sold or to add photographs) is allowed and encouraged. Do not make a new post simply advising that you have added photos or dropped the price. Thread crapping and or hijacking is strictly prohibited. If you do not agree with the asking price of an item for sale for example, this matter must not be discussed in the open forum. Please take the issue up in private with the seller. TheFragTank.ca will not be involved in ANY buyer/seller disputes.

Post into the correct forum:

There are a number of different forums on this site. Please use the appropriate forum when starting a new topic. We suggest you read the individual forums write-ups, which will also help you understand the use of the various forums. If you have a question as to where to post - you can post into the 'Just Getting Started' or 'Reef Discussion' forum - we will move it if needed.

Lurk (anonymously observe):

When you jump into a forum, do not post any comments right away. Try to read and catch up with what is going on and observe what people are saying. After you feel comfortable and think you are ready to add useful information/comments to the conversation, please do so. If you are looking for certain information you may find it has already been posted within the relevant forum so have a look through the recent topic titles. Using the forums' search features -located within the top menu bar will help you a great deal. If you don't find any information - definitely do post your question.

If you're not sure of a fact, state so in the post:

There's nothing wrong with taking a guess - just please state so in your post.
Give a follow up report for the ones that took the time to help you:
People try to help out - and when they do, it's nice to at least get a thanks. Also - when others search out the thread - it's at least nice for them to be able to see what the outcome was.

Move to PM if the subject drifts too far off topic:

Do try and keep to the topic of the thread. If you want to raise a new issue then consider whether a new topic is more appropriate.

If you have a unique question that others can learn from, make it a thread rather than a PM:
The benefit of a forum, is to have the archive of information. PM's are not public, and aren't of help to other members. Posting the question into the forums will still help you (and will get more input from multiple members) - and will serve to help other members in the future too.

WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CHANGE, AMEND AND ADD RULES.

Thanks
